The decision was confirmed in a letter dated Thursday, January 16, 2025, and signed by Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education. Addressed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, the letter outlined the institution’s purpose and emphasized its alignment with the federal government’s vision for education and skill development.
Wike Asked to Suggest Names for Proposed School
In the letter, the Minister of Education requested Nyesom Wike to suggest suitable locations in Gwarinpa for the Polytechnic’s temporary and permanent sites. According to Alausa, a technical team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Federal Ministry of Education will inspect the recommended locations before giving final approval.
As reported by Daily Trust on Tuesday, January 21, the new institution is also named after President Tinubu.
The team’s findings will determine the viability of the proposed sites for the Polytechnic’s smooth operations and long-term development.
Key Abuja Stakeholder Reacts to FG’s Move
Reacting to the news, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s commitment to education.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu described the establishment of the Polytechnic as a “dream come true” for the residents of Abuja. He also praised Wike for his role in bringing the project closer to reality, emphasizing that the institution would contribute to the educational and economic progress of the FCT.
Progress for FCT and Its Residents
This development is particularly significant as it coincides with the appointment of Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo, an FCT native, as a Minister for the first time in history. Jisalo, a two-term House of Representatives member for the AMAC/Bwari constituency, represents a beacon of hope for advancing educational infrastructure in Abuja.
