In a remarkable display of lifelong learning, 94-year-old Adedapo Idowu has officially registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with the goal of studying Political Science at the University of Ibadan.

Idowu completed his registration at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State. Speaking on his experience, he expressed excitement over the seamless registration process, which dispelled his initial fears about pursuing higher education at his age.

JAMB 2025 UTME Registration Sees Record Numbers

The 2025 UTME registration commenced on January 31, and as of last week, JAMB reported that over 700,000 candidates had already registered. Among them were 11,000 underage applicants, showcasing the diversity of individuals seeking higher education in Nigeria.

Idowu’s story was highlighted in JAMB’s latest bulletin, emphasizing the accessibility of education for all, regardless of age.

Overcoming Barriers to Achieve a Dream

Idowu, undeterred by age, shared his excitement about finally pursuing his academic aspirations.

“I can now attain my dream at an advanced age,” he said.

He also commended the JAMB registration staff for their welcoming approach, saying, “The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the registration venue.”
